Korean biotech company Bioneer said it would donate 10,000 Covid-19 diagnostic kits to help Lebanon fight the infectious disease.
The company will give 10,000 units of “AccuPower SARS-CoV-2 Multiplex Real-time RT-PCR Kit” to five hospitals, including a state-run hospital in Beirut through a local agency, it said.
The hospitals are testing Covid-19 using ExiStation™, an automated molecular diagnostic equipment consisting of Bioneer’s nucleic acid extraction device, and real-time PCR.
Lebanon is reeling from the massive blast at a Beirut’s port on Aug. 4, which killed at least 178 people and damaged nearly half of the capital. Compounded by a quicker spread of the Covid-19 pandemic, most Lebanese medical institutions are overwhelmed with the blast and Covid-19 patients' victims.
“We express our deepest consolation and regret to the citizens of Beirut and Lebanon who suffered difficulties and lost families due to the unexpected catastrophe,” Bioneer CEO Park Han-oh said. “I hope our support of Covid-19 test kits could help Lebanon overcome the unprecedented crisis.”
